#GIVENOFAKS : WE'RE MARRIED

We are all a little weird and, life's a little weird, and when we find someone who's weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.

I was never a girl who planned her wedding, or had a book full of ideas of what my perfect wedding would be like. The idea of standing in front of hundreds of people terrifies me (I'm from Spain, so you can bet my cousin's neighbor that I don't know would be invited). It's ingrained that a wedding is the best day of one's life; the dress, the flowers, the music, etc... As time went on and people I knew were getting married and planning for months their special day, I felt that maybe I was odd for not dreaming up my own. There were times that I actually pinned a board of wedding ideas even though deep down I knew it wasn't who I was or what I wanted to do. I wasn't the girl that went to dances in high school, I was the one that went to plays & exhibitions instead. Looking back, I never really went with what most did, I did what felt natural & comfortable to me and I didn't care what others thought.

So one day my significant other (aka Joey) and I decided to get married. No, there was no proposal, I'd say more of an agreement haha. We've been together 4.5 years, have a house and dogs together, we were pretty much married but without the legalities. Those that know me, know that when I have something in mind that I feel strongly about I do it, and I don't like to think twice. If I think about something too long, I allow others' judgement of my actions to dictate my choices. And who wants to live like that?

My dream wedding involved honesty + simplicity, but with an edge. I didn't want to plan; my life is full of decisions and questions, and for this day I genuinely wanted a care-free/stress-free day that symbolized who we were as a couple. Although we did not have an ordinary wedding, we still wanted to capture our day in a frozen memory. We're not lovey dovey in the public eye, so why would we portray that in our photographs? We are upfront goofs, and that's how we like it.

As a designer with a passion for photographs, editorials, and vintage, this was definitely a fun photoshoot to plan (my ideas for this photoshoot happened within seconds- talk about excited huh?). The following day I called Bridget to do our photographs; she did the photos for my website and I knew she'd be the perfect person for this job as well. She took my words and my vision and made it a reality with her killer photography skills, plus she's so cool and chill to work with.

All in all, the day was exactly what we wanted, the perfect blanket of snow, a beautiful written sermon by my best friend, sushi, kick-ass photographs, bar-hopping and just being us. So who says you need something old, something new, and something blue? When you can have something red, something vintage and something furry?

I hope everyone that sees these enjoy a part of my personal side. It was so hard to choose from all of the photos, I can just look at them for days - Thank you Bridget!

P.S. Below is the mood board I put together for Bridget, sometimes designers can't help themselves...
