Joey and I recently bought a house (exciting I know :D), and with the territory comes all sorts of dreaming up, DIY's, and a lot of Saturday night date nights spent at Home Depot/Lowes. I love it! For now at least.
We moved in shy of six months ago and it's a slow process when it comes to curating your own personal space. Let's face it, patience is not my forté. I fight it every day, but that's a story for another time.
My goal for every few months is to focus on a certain part of the house. Lately, the living room has been on my radar; it's the main room one sees when you enter the house, and I just find it hysterical that Steve McQueen will be there to greet those that visit our abode (I use to work for a motorsports company, as a result, I left loving the sport). As you can see from the items I've put together, I have a very eclectic/vintage taste with a twisted humor. I think it reflects Joey and I quite well. Apart from my choice in artwork; I love the clean lines of mid-century furniture combined with raw industrial items, so I'm always on the hunt for a good thrifted piece. If we can fix it, it's already in my car. This is not to say that I wouldn't love to shop at West Elm and Schoolhouse Electric every day. Unfortunately, my wallet doesn't feel that way. Plus, there's something so rewarding in finding a good piece and polishing it back to the way it was x-amount of years ago. I love things that have a story behind them; my designer side coming through.
Other items I'm determined to have around the house are plants. And lots of them! Greenery just adds that touch of fresh and I can't get enough of them. If only I could keep them alive :-| I'll leave that task to Joey.
Last but not least, there will be books, magazines, and all sorts of printed goodies displayed that make me go GA-GA. I'm a complete sucker when it comes to a beautiful published piece. I did do a degree specialized in publishing after all, and with it comes its obsession. Before I keep gushing over all the ideas I have floating in my head, I'll let you guys peruse the items I've put together, and hopefully give you some creative sparks of your own. Happy shopping!
P.S. There will be a lot of DIY's that I will be sharing along the way - watch this space :)
